Can ordinary plate heat exchangers be used as plate condensers

When the steam saturation pressure is in the range of 0.04-0.4MP, the application of ordinary plate heat exchangers is still very economical. The plate heat exchanger has high heat transfer coefficient of condensing steam, less cooling water consumption, small footprint and less investment. However, plate heat exchangers used for heat exchange have two major disadvantages when condensing steam:

1. Because the fluid flow main pipe of the plate heat exchanger is composed of corner holes on each plate. For heat exchange, the diameter of the corner holes is designed according to the liquid flow rate, but when it is used for condensing steam, the volume flow rate of the steam is large, so the flow rate is often too high, resulting in excessive pressure loss. condenser;
2. For ordinary plate heat exchangers, the wave pattern of the plate is mainly considered to strengthen heat transfer, which is single-phase heat transfer. In order to improve the heat transfer rate during condensation, the main consideration is that the condensed water can be quickly discharged to avoid the formation of an excessively thick liquid film on the heat transfer surface. The heat transfer process of the two is very different, so it is necessary to design and manufacture a special plate heat exchanger for condensation.
