The number of passes for the hot and cold sides can be selected independently, and heat transfer can be optimized even with different fluid flow rates on the different sides. This unique flexibility allows board changers to always be customized and optimized for the task. The baffles can withstand full vacuum and can be rearranged to accommodate new operating conditions if design conditions change in the future.
The heat exchanger has a counterflow (interleaved flow) function and can be operated through a temperature crossover procedure (in a single unit) to temperatures close to 3°C (5.4F) to maximize energy recovery. The advantages of its small size and light weight design allow it to be installed anywhere, such as on top of a distillation column or suspended from a support structure.
